AESAN organises a workshop on technical assistance for delegations from
Turkey and Macedonia25/03/2010

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition received a Delegation of food safety representatives from Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as part of a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) assistance programme aimed at European Union candidate countries.
Ana Troncoso, Executive Director of AESAN, welcomed the delegations and explained AESAN’s sphere of competence. The workshop continued with a presentation of lines of work by Milagros Nieto of the Sub-directorate General for the Coordination of Food Alerts and Official Control Programmes, especially with regard to the working of alert networks (RASFF and SCIRI).
Juan Julián García Gómez, Executive Advisor for Risk Communication, then explained the management of Risk Communication and Rosa Sanchidrián, Deputy Director General for Food Risk Management, explained the working of the food register, legislation pertaining to Genetically Modified Organisms, health declarations and their legislation, as well as legislation relating to food supplements. She also outlined the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
The technical support session for both delegations concluded with a visit to the National Food Centre laboratories.
