In the frame of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Spanish Food Safety and Nutrition Agency will held a workshop on food in Madrid on 8th March 2010.

The main objectives of the workshop are:

  • Knowing the different national approaches in the implementation of Directive 2002/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 10 June 2002 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to food supplements.
  • Reflecting on how we can use the Community legal instruments currently available to food supplements risk management.
  • Clarifying how Regulation (EC) No 764/2008, laying down procedures relating to the application of certain national technical rules to products lawfully marketed in another Member State and repealing Decision No 3052/95/EC, affects to the marketing of food supplements composed of substances other than vitamins and minerals not harmonized at European level.

The ultimate goal is to promote transparency and to share Member States experiences in this field in order to ensure a high level of the consumer protection while ensuring the functioning of the internal market.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The workshop is open only to Assessment Bodies, European Commission and competent authorities. However, conclusions will be available to other stakeholders in this website after the meeting.
