Allergic reaction following consumption of Gerblé’s mini rice snacks covered
in plain chocolate14/06/2010
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition received notification from the competent Health Authorities in Catalonia, via SCIRI (Coordinated System of Rapid Information Exchange) that a consumer has had an allergic reaction after eating dark-chocolate-covered mini rice cakes manufactured by Gerblé.
Once the appropriate actions had been taken, the presence of milk proteins was detected in the said product, which were not mentioned on the label.
Nationally, the competent authorities of regional governments were informed of the facts via SCIRI, as well as European Commission Services (via RASSF) and allergy associations.
The company which manufactures the product has confined all supplies of the affected product to its warehouses and has informed retailers that it should be removed from sale to the consumer.
Nevertheless, and as a precautionary measure, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition advises those consumers who are allergic to milk products and who may already have the aforementioned product (Mini rice snacks covered in plain chocolate, by Gerblé, all batch numbers) in their homes to avoid consuming it.
