Opening of the II Food Safety and Nutrition Course12/07/2010

Today saw the start of the II Food Safety and Nutrition Course to be held at El Escorial from 12 to 16 July, as part of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid’s Summer Courses Programme for 2010, jointly organised by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition and the Ministry for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the President of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, Roberto Sabrido, who was accompanied by Isabel García, Deputy Director-General for the Conservation of Animal Resources and Food Products, of the Ministry for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, the other institution involved in running the course together with AESAN. Also present was Ramón Calbet, President of the ForoInteralimentario, who are sponsoring this year’s course, along with AESAN and the Ministry.
During his speech, Roberto Sabrido explained that, since this is the second year that AESAN has been involved in organising a Food Safety Course, a more advanced approach would be taken, with a deeper examination of current issues on European Union forums. Sabrido gave a brief summary of each workshop making up the course, pointing out that this year the final two days would be dedicated to food safety within the primary sector and resulting from commercial exchange. He also explained that a day would still be dedicated to food and health from the point of view of nutrition. The result is a comprehensive approach, in line with the modern concept of food safety.
He finished his speech by thanking the Ministry for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs for their involvement in the course, and the ForoInteralimentario for once again supporting the initiative.
