Dietetic food without specific legislationDietetic food is also deemed to be low-salt food, diabetic food, food for premature babies, very low-calorie diets for weight loss, etc., even though they do not have their own legislation.
Although the framework directive for dietetic food (Directive 2009/39/EC) provides for food intended for high muscle depletion, aimed mainly at sportspersons, the European Commission has not until now presented a specific proposal for legislation in this field.
All these products must comply with the general conditions laid down in Royal Decree 1809/1991 for products intended for special nutritional use, also any other provision which may be applied.
